Natural Park Rieserferner-Ahrn

The valley Tauferer-Ahrntal is part of the natural park Rieserferner-Ahrn, one of the biggest natural parks in South Tyrol. Its name comes from one of the park's biggest glaciers, called "Rieserferner". "Ferner" is a regional denomination for glacier.

Created in the 1988, this park is part of nine natural park areas in South Tyrol. The italian parks have the function to preserve nature and culture.

Its beautiful flora and fauna is extended on a total area of 31.500 hektar, the Ahrntal Valley included.

From the geological point of view, the natural park Rieserferner-Ahrn is especially interesting, because here the african and the european tectonic plate collide. This was the reason for the creation of the Alps.

The highest mountains in the park are the Dreiherrenspitze (3499 m) and the Rötspitze (3495 m). Accessible directly from Kasern.
